Job description
Temple Shir Tikva is vibrant and exciting Reform Jewish congregation located in Metrowest Boston.

The Assistant will be an essential member of the team at Temple Shir Tikva. This position will report to the Executive Director and will work closely with the Director of Education, Director of Youth Engagement, other administrators, teachers, and congregants to provide administrative and communications support for the K-12 learning and other temple engagement programs. In addition, this position will be responsible for producing weekly newsletters, social media postings, and other communications for the Temple. The position requires excellent communications and organizational skills, graphic design skills, and the ability to prioritize and collaborate. The administrative assistant is someone who cares deeply about Jewish education and making the synagogue experience the best it can be for our congregants.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
K-12 Learning Program Support (Approximately 50%)
• Coordinate all administrative tasks and needs for all aspects of the K-12 education and engagement programs including Hineini (K-6 Learning), AISH (7-12 Learning), TSTeen programs, family education, grade-level Shabbat programming, and field trips
• Manage enrollment and logistics for learning programs and special events
• Support education program with setup of classrooms and events, and teacher support
• Order, track and maintain books, resources and supplies for the school and events, and make them accessible to teachers
• Coordinate community relationships such as Passport to Israel, Boston-Haifa Connection, and Gateways
• Manage website calendar with dates and descriptions of programs, meetings, and school schedules
• Parent communications: coordinate weekly parent updates, enrollment communications, reminders for family education and events, parent interactions during school hours and throughout the week
• Assist with collection of payroll and employment records for teachers and student teachers
• Coordinate childcare and children’s programming at High Holy Days (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur) including reservations, payroll for additional staff/vendors, building set-up, and supplies
Communications: (approximately 40%)
• Produce graphically attractive and informative weekly newsletters and other regular communications to the entire Temple community to inform the community of activities and events, and publicize the temple activities throughout MetroWest
• Identify or create eye-catching information graphics that support our brand and communicate effectively
• Write and edit newsletter articles, blog posts, social media postings, and flyers
• Update website and community calendar with current event information and other community news
• In conjunction with the Executive Director, maintain the communications calendar
• Publish regular social media postings and maintain social media presences
• Maintain a library of useful resources for social media and communications
• Help develop standards and style guidelines for communications
• Recommend additional communication channels that could be used to market Temple activities

Temple Support: (approximately 10%)
- As needed, provide general administrative support
- Greet congregants and answer phones
- Order materials and help prepare for events


Skills required:
• Organizational skills: excellent phone and email skills, excellent writing, editing and communication skills, ability to take initiative and work independently
• Relational skills: able to learn about people- names, stories, situations; works well with a team; ability to juggle competing priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive,
• Proficiency or ability to learn Microsoft Teams and MailChimp
• Proficiency or ability to learn WordPress
• Proficiency with social media (Facebook, Instragram, Twitter, YouTube)
• Proficiency or ability to learn ShulCloud (synagogue database and CRM), scheduling apps, tools for digital communication, invitations, surveys/forms
• Familiarity with Reform Judaism preferred
• Enjoys working directly with synagogue members and prospective members to provide understanding and support for their individual needs, including personal and financial.
• A customer service mindset with a high emotional intelligence
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong graphic design skills

College degree strongly preferred

Work Schedule:
• During the school year, requires work most Sundays and some Saturdays
• Work on some Jewish holidays required
