The Chief Innovation Officer, Programs (CINOP), a newly created position, will be responsible for building Gateways’ capacity for generative, innovative, and entrepreneurial thinking—and its ability to proactively develop, pilot, and iterate upon new and proven approaches, products, and services. The CINOP will report directly to the CEO and will work closely with the COO and with senior education program staff who direct Gateways’ Jewish Education Programs (GJEP), day school services, and Center for Professional Learning (CPL) to foster continuous advancement in best practices in inclusion and special education across Jewish educational settings both within and beyond Boston.
To accomplish our strategic goals over the next three to five years and beyond, Gateways seeks to evolve as a true learning organization – and the CINOP will need to be skilled in developing Gateways’ ability to create, acquire, and transfer knowledge and adapt our programs’ behavior and approaches in response. The CINOP will ensure that Gateways is generating creative, cutting-edge solutions and tangible outcomes in response to current trends, emerging needs, and internal and external evaluative data. Individual expertise and ability to provide on the ground consultation on best practices in special education are necessary and critical—and should inform development of products such as toolkits, curriculum guides, and train-the-trainer modules so others can ultimately carry Gateways’ work forward in their own communities.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the CINOP will serve as a thought partner and collaborator with the CEO and COO in positioning Gateways to take our impact to the next level, and as a senior member of the program team, will add their unique perspective and expertise to our skilled team of special educators, helping to foster continued and greater successes for the students and educators we serve.
Core Responsibilities (note – our office is currently closed due to COVID, and some of these responsibilities may be different or not applicable while the position is operating remotely):
• Identify opportunities to leverage existing and new Gateways programs and resources that apply across a range of formal and informal educational settings and build our capacity to share and implement these more broadly, including specific products and curricula.
• Codify proven Gateways practices and tools; and translate the learning and relationships gained nationally to enhance and strengthen our work locally.
• Participate in long-term visioning, assessment, and implementation of revenue-generating models for various areas of the organization, such as fee for service opportunities or products to bring to market.
• Serve as both a hands-on provider of professional education to Jewish educators within and beyond Boston, and collaborate with our Program Directors on matching and deploying other internal and external experts to address the needs of the community.
• In partnership with the CEO and senior leadership, build intentional and strategic alliances with like-minded institutions and coalitions, both locally and nationally, to meet the existing and emerging needs of impacted children and teens wherever they are.
• Support COO in development and adaptation of annual programmatic goals to realize the long-term objectives of our strategic plan.
• Responsible for strategic engagement of lay leaders in product development and dissemination initiatives; support the CEO and senior program staff in working directly with the VP of Education and Education Committee, attend committee meetings, and present at meetings as appropriate.
• Attend Board of Trustees and Executive Committee meetings, and present as needed.
• Collaborate with the Director of Development to pursue and secure grant opportunities focused on building the long-term sustainability of the organization.
• Keep abreast of Jewish and special educational trends across the field and represent Gateways across various platforms such as national conferences, news publications, social media, etc.
• Serve as an ambassador for children, teens, and families in our communities through the dissemination of Gateways-branded products and practices.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Deep personal commitment to the essentiality of continuous learning and growth, for both individuals and organizations.
• Masters in Special Education or relevant discipline required.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in special education required; experience working in formal and informal Jewish educational settings, such as Jewish day schools, religious/supplementary schools, and/or camps preferred.
• Experience providing professional development required. Experience in development and/or dissemination of written products, e.g. curricula and lesson planning guides preferred.
• Should be a strategic thinker and planner, with tangible experience of cultivating or leveraging opportunities for growth over time. Experience in leadership of cross-organizational partnerships and collaborations strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of constituencies. Familiarity with social media platforms a plus.
• Flexible and adaptable style; a leader and team player who can positively impact both strategic and tactical organizational initiatives.
• Ability to work independently.
• Understanding of the national Jewish community, including the network of day schools, synagogues, and camps, preferred.
• Some nights and some Sundays are required.
Expected salary: $100,000 plus benefits.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree + Advanced Degree Required and 10+ years of experience.
