Development Coordinator

Confidence, community, and growth: young people gain so much from their Jewish summer camp experiences. The Cohen Camps, a family of three Jewish overnight camps and related programs (cohencamps.org), seeks a full-time Development Coordinator to play a vital administrative role in advancing our nonprofit mission.

The Development Coordinator supports to all fundraising activities, including but not limited to: receiving, tracking, reconciling, and acknowledging gifts; maintaining donor records; providing positive customer service to donors; and coordinating materials and details for fundraising outreach. This role reports to the Development Director and works closely with the Accounting Manager and the three-camp leadership team. The person in this role will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the camp philanthropy experience through their professionalism and attention to detail.

Essential Functions

  • Gift Processing: Process timely gift acknowledgement letters, tributes, and pledge acknowledgements; manage gift processing and assist with financial reconciliations; build or edit online giving forms as needed.
  • Data Management: Manage donor data and information systems, including maintaining donor database, ensuring timely data accuracy and system integrity, and generating reports as needed.
  • Donor Stewardship: Assist in: researching assigned donor prospects; tracking donor communications; preparing materials for donor meetings; collaborating with staff and volunteers to execute fundraising and alumni events and campaigns; providing customer service and donor follow-up.
  • Teamwork: Participate in the year-round Cohen Camps team by providing additional assistance as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Prior success in a professional setting (1-3 years), either in a nonprofit or for-profit field.
    • The ability to work independently and proactively.
    • Capacity for effective written and verbal communications.
    • Proven experience and skills in communications, correspondence, organization, confidentiality, and reporting.
    • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Preferred:
    • Familiarity with DonorPerfect or similar fundraising management platform.
    • Familiarity with additional fundraising and communications tools such as Qgiv, Constant Contact, Canva, and Facebook/Instagram fundraisers.
  • Appreciated:
    • Significant understanding of the essence and unique value of a camp environment.
    • Familiarity with Judaism and Jewish education (formal and/or informal).
    • Self-starter with a positive outlook, warm smile, good interpersonal skills, initiative, and enthusiasm.

Other Requirements

  • Availability to travel to meetings as needed, with access to a car. Occasional visits (mostly day trips) to the three Cohen Camps—in MA and NH, each within an hour of Boston—and local areas during the off-season.
  • Occasional flexibility to work outside normal business hours, in evenings and on weekends, for meetings and events.

Work Environment:

  • Usual hours for this position are M-F, 9am-5pm (earlier on Fridays).
  • Location is onsite at our Wellesley office, which offers elevator access and free parking.
