Director, Caring & Social Justice

Combined Jewish Philanthropies 126 High Street, Boston MA

Passion. Purpose. Impact.  CJP is at the heart of Greater Boston's Jewish community, but our reach is felt around the world. Ranked by BBJ as Massachusetts’ largest non-profit organization – CJP is a philanthropic investor and mobilizer of people, resources, and skills that make a bigger difference locally and globally. We focus on making Jewish life and learning accessible to all individuals and families in Boston and beyond. We thoughtfully invest in the care and well-being of all community members. And we provide stability and growth to nonprofit organizations and institutions that underpin our community. Our greatest resource is our people — the staff, volunteers, partners, and leaders who help make Greater Boston’s Jewish community a welcoming home. It’s this energy and commitment that drive CJP’s mission. CJP is one of Boston's oldest and most respected philanthropic organizations and we are currently seeking a Director, Caring and Social Justice.

As a member of the Caring and Social Justice Team, the Director of Caring and Social Justice (CSJ) works with the Associate Vice President, Caring and Social Justice to create a unified vision for CJP’s Caring and Social Justice work and aligns these core areas to support both the critical needs of the community and create systemic change. In this role, the Director of CSJ will work with the AVP of Caring and Social Justice, to grow CJP’s existing social justice work consistent with CJP’s Jewish values, build a strategy for CJP’s developing Mental Health initiative, growing it from its current beginning phase into a multi-faceted, robust, and groundbreaking foundation of the Caring agenda, and lead CJP’s Anti-Poverty Initiative (API).

As a key component of their work, the Director of CSJ is responsible for CJP’s relationships with organizations that support the work falling under the CSJ portfolio, including those that support vulnerable populations, and justice-based organizations across our community. In addition to cultivating trusting relationships with this network of organizations, the Director is responsible for incentivizing and supporting collaborations across these networks.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • With AVP, develop and hone an overall caring and social justice strategy that integrates caring for people here and now while working towards systemic change for the future
  • The Director will particularly focus on growing CJP’s existing social justice work with a focus on equity that aligns with CJP’s values and the way we aspire to contribute to Boston and beyond as a large non-profit and work closely with CJP’s Equity Task Force.
  • Oversee investments in systemic change, working within and beyond the Jewish community (past examples include homelessness and refugee/immigration work)
  • Participate in broad community coalitions for social change within and beyond the Jewish community.

Education:   Bachelor’s degree required.

Budgeted Salary Range:  $94,300 – 117,000
