Haimish/Homey Boston Synagogue Seeks Religious School Teachers
Dates: 9 months per year (October - May)
Hours: weekly Sunday mornings, some grades meet Wednesday afternoons as well
Compensation: $40-$60 per hour depending on experience and education
Temple Hillel B'nai Torah (HBT), a down-to-earth, social-justice-oriented, diverse Reconstructionist congregation in the city of Boston, MA (West Roxbury) seeks a few strong teachers to join our religious school (Chaverim/Friends) for the 2023-2024 school year. We have weekly Sunday morning classes from 9:45am-12:15pm for pre-k through 7th graders; 3rd-6th graders meet Wednesday afternoons as well from 4:30-6pm.
Our curriculum is based around six core components: Chavurah/Community, Mitzvot & Values, Avodah/Worship & Spirituality, Torah/Learning, Ivrit/Hebrew, and Chagim/Holidays & Sacred Time. Our goal in Chaverim is for students to become thoughtful, engaged, and grounded young adults who have a foundational Jewish literacy, feel at home in (and contribute to) the HBT community, and are prepared to learn and grow on their lifelong Jewish journeys. For more about HBT and the Chaverim School, go to templehbt.org.
Expectations include regular monthly meetings for teachers, lesson planning, and weekly communication with parents, as well as progress reports once per semester. Prior teaching/camp counselor experience is preferred. College students are welcome to apply. We are particularly interested in hiring Jews of Color as teachers in our school.
