CJP Named to Forbes List of America’s Top Charities

Top 100 list based on value of private donations received, reflecting powerful story of engagement among CJP’s community

The Greater Boston Jewish community has long demonstrated what is possible when people come together. This month, that strength was recognized nationally as Forbes ranked CJP 83rd on its 2025 list of America’s Top 100 Charities.

For organizations like CJP, our greatest asset is the people who make up our community and who support our shared mission of inspiring and mobilizing Jewish life across the region. In fiscal year 2024, our community contributed $253 million in private donations, a powerful reflection of trust, partnership, and belief in the work we are doing together.

Collectively, the list’s top 100 charities received a total of $66.5 billion in private donations during the 2024 fiscal year, a 4.4% annual increase and a powerful reminder of the essential role private philanthropy plays at a time when many social service organizations face decreased federal funding.

But this honor is about more than numbers. It represents the families, individuals, and partners who believe in sustaining Jewish life in Greater Boston and beyond.  Our community’s presence on this list, especially as a mid-sized city among many larger ones, speaks to the depth of engagement, generosity, and shared responsibility that define Jewish Boston.

“Being recognized at a moment of real challenge for the Jewish community in Greater Boston and around the world is both meaningful and humbling,” said CJP President and CEO Rabbi Marc Baker. “This designation ultimately reflects the commitment of our donors – families, individuals, and partners – who believe deeply in sustaining, protecting, and strengthening Jewish life across our region, especially in uncertain times.”

CJP is honored to serve as the trusted steward of our community’s philanthropy. Together, we are advancing ambitious goals to ensure that Jewish life remains vibrant, inclusive, and resilient for generations to come.

We are profoundly grateful to every donor who makes this work possible. This recognition belongs to the entire Greater Boston Jewish community.

And yet, there is so much more to do. Our collective commitment is our greatest resource – and together, we can continue building a Jewish future rooted in connection, compassion, and courage.
