Community Gathers to Support French Jewry

More than 450 community members – many wearing stickers reading “Je Suis Juif,” or “We Are Jews” – gathered on January 14 to show solidarity with French Jewry at Wellesley’s Temple Beth Elohim. Consul General of France in Boston Fabien Fieschi spoke of hope amid sorrow in his country after horrific terror attacks. Barry Shrage, president of CJP, said that while the community gathered this night to mourn lives lost to “the ultimate insanity,” they must also never forget the past. “One of the lessons of World War II is that we must not be bullied into silence. We have to hold on to our liberty with both hands, with all our might,” Shrage said.
