Learning From Pandemics Past: Jewish History and COVID-19
CJP Live Event and JewishBoston Vibe of the Tribe Podcast

Monday, April 13, 2020

Rabbi Marc Baker, CEO and President of CJP, and Dr. Jonathan Sarna, the Joseph H. and Belle R. Braun Professor of American Jewish History in the department of Near Eastern and Judaic Studies at Brandeis University, presented a fascinating conversation touching on past, present, and future. They offered the unique perspectives from their work; Marc, as the leader of a large Jewish organization in a time of rapid, profound change, and critical communal need, and Jonathan, a renowned scholar of Jewish history who is also an active member of the community he studies.

COVID-19 has triggered an unprecedented wave of changes to day-to-day life around the world. Existing in a state of crisis is nothing new to the Jewish people, however. History can be our guide during difficult times. What does the past tell us about how we will emerge from the era of COVID-19? How might Jewish life change after this extended period of radical social distancing and economic turmoil?

The event was featured on JewishBoston.com’s The Vibe of the Tribe podcast.
