Through their leadership and innovative thinking, Lorri, Ruth and Elana have made an incredible impact on the Jewish community, with a particular focus on Israeli graduate students in Boston for more than a decade. They build strong relationships with fellow volunteers and staff partners, and show up with ideas, collaboration, and a real commitment to our shared goals. These three leaders identified a gap in programming for Israeli students in the Boston area and stepped up to support this group. Lorri, Ruth, and Elana have developed solutions to create a more welcoming environment for students worried about antisemitism and anti-Zionism in Boston. Through their Benenu initiative, they recruited Boston families to pair with Israeli graduate students at MIT and Harvard and regularly host students in their homes, meet them for coffee, and help organize events and public speaking opportunities that are easy for Israeli students and young adults to attend. These volunteers have worked to ensure that Israeli students feel supported and are helping to create a thriving sense of community that lasts even beyond graduation.
