Name: Sara Hefez
Occupation: Director
Organization/Employer: Jewish National Fund (JNF)
Describe your career in one sentence.
“We make a living by what we get, but a life by what we give.” –Winston Churchill
What was your favorite way to give back this year?
I’m blessed that my profession and passion intersect on a regular basis. I spend my days (and nights/weekends) as the Director for JNF in New England. I am so honored and humbled to serve the land and people of Israel in my role.
What other organizations, boards, charities, etc. are you a part of?
I’ve served on the Parents Committee at my children’s school for many years, first at the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston (JCC) and now in their elementary school. My favorite part has been the chance to visit their classrooms as the photographer for their yearbook. (Who knew that kindergartners today get yearbooks!?)
Our family also participates in the Multiple Myeloma Walk annually in memory of my beloved father-in-law who passed away from the aggressive cancer more than 8 years ago, right before his first grandson was born.
Just a few of my fun facts are…
- I’m the first of four generations of women in my family who didn’t marry someone born on April 18th. My dad, grandfather and great-grandfather were all born on the same day!
- I received the fastest promotion at JNF ever, 3 weeks after my start date!
- My favorite Disney princess is Mulan—she showed a generation of girls that no matter the glass ceiling, we could do anything or be anyone.
