A Letter to the Community

Welcome to the CJP President Search web page. As co-chairs of the CJP President Search Committee, we want to share information about this important process and keep you updated on our progress.

Replacing the leadership and contributions of Barry Shrage will not be easy. At the same time, CJP is a thriving, innovative, and successful organization. It represents a very attractive opportunity for a broad and diverse set of candidates. As the search committee co-chairs, we are honored to lead this process. We are committed to finding and hiring a future leader of CJP who will build on its successes and help us blaze a path forward to meet the changing needs of our Boston Jewish community. Our future has never been brighter.

Our search process is already well underway. An 11-member search committee has been selected, and their names and bios can be found here. We have selected SpencerStuart, a highly qualified international search and leadership consulting firm, to partner with us in helping to identify and present candidates for consideration.

An important part of our process will be to reach out and connect to many leaders and individuals across the broader Boston Jewish community to actively solicit feedback and ideas about the important characteristics and skills the next president will have. Our objective is to create a robust document with our requirements and the job description which will provide the criteria that we will use to evaluate candidates.

One of our goals is to be as open and transparent as possible. While we will not be able to share the names of each candidate under consideration, we are committed to sharing timely updates along the way. We understand how important the next president of CJP is to our community, and we will communicate important milestones in the process.

We have created this web page as a source of information about the search process and plan to update it on a regular basis. In the interim, if you have specific ideas to share or questions to ask, please consider sending us a message at CJPpresidentsearch@cjp.org, and we will do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Aron Ain and Shira Goodman
Chairs, CJP President Search Committee

Begin with the End in Mind

One of my favorite books is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. In it, Dr. Covey gives the sage advice that, when starting any project, initiative, or even thinking about your personal aspirations, it is best to begin with the end in mind.

Listening to and Learning from the Community

The President Search Committee has been hard at work during the summer months. Starting in early August our search firm, SpencerStuart, spent the day at CJP offices meeting with staff to understand their views on what would make a great future leader. Small group meetings and individual conv…
