CJP's Israel Campus Initiative (IACT)

Learn about the IACT Initiative.

Why is CJP investing in IACT?

CJP's Israel Campus Initiative builds on the success of Birthright by providing support and inspiration to students before and after their trip. In other cities, students return from Birthright transformed. Too often however, their journey ends when they come home. With CJP’s help, Birthright alums in Greater Boston have the opportunity to engage in an active Jewish life and advocate for Israel on campus.

How does IACT work?

CJP funds professional, full-time coordinators on 12 campuses in New England. These dynamic leaders mentor and empower students who are interested in deepening their relationship with Judaism or Israel.

We offer partner campuses an array of support, including:

  • Marketing and programming resources
  • Laptop recruitment stations
  • Grant-based Bus Empowerment Program

Other components focus on Jewish cultural arts, Israel advocacy and community service modules—both locally and in Haifa, our sister city in Israel.

What is the impact so far?

Since IACT began in 2007, we’ve helped to create an incredible surge of alumni innovation, engagement and community-building that is transforming Jewish life on campus. The numbers tell the story:

  • 80% of IACT alumni are “sustainably engaged” in campus Jewish life.
  • 3,000 hours of individual, informal Hebrew classes have taken place on campus.
  • 200 Boston-area Birthright alumni returned to Israel for short-term service trips this year.
  • 2,000 participants attended “Invest in Israel” parlor meetings across campuses.

How do I get involved?
