CJP is deeply committed to supporting Jewish communities around the world. Guided by our values, we partner with organizations dedicated to helping those in need and strengthening Jewish life wherever it exists. One of our longest-standing partnerships is with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the world's leading Jewish humanitarian organization.

Known as the "Global Jewish 911," JDC responds to emergencies and disasters in real time, delivering critical aid through a vast network of services, expertise, and local partnerships. For decades, CJP has proudly supported JDC’s lifesaving work. Today, that partnership continues as we help provide essential assistance to vulnerable Jewish communities in Ukraine and support recovery efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

Ukraine

Despite more than four years of war, Jewish life in Ukraine endures. Resilience remains a defining characteristic of these communities, but daily life is marked by uncertainty, interrupted sleep, and ongoing physical and emotional strain resulting from repeated attacks on civilian populations.

Through its network of Chesed welfare centers, the JDC provides critical care and essential services to vulnerable Jews across the country. Needs remain significant, particularly among homebound older adults who rely on assistance with home care, medications, and food. JDC staff and volunteers make regular visits that help preserve dignity while combating loneliness and isolation.

At the same time, communities are working tirelessly to sustain vibrant Jewish life despite the challenges. Families continue to gather for Shabbat, participate in programs and events, and maintain important communal traditions. During the summer, the JDC is operating more than 20 family and day camps throughout Ukraine, as well as providing respite opportunities for teens at the Szarvas camp in Hungary and mental health retreats for families and young people.

Venezuela

In Venezuela, the challenges are different, but the level of need is equally urgent. Just over a month ago, two earthquakes struck the country, causing devastating loss of life and widespread destruction. Within the Jewish community, seven lives were lost, more than 200 homes were damaged, and hundreds of people were displaced and are now in need of mental health and recovery support.

More than 600 community members currently require basic humanitarian assistance to meet their immediate needs.

In partnership with the local Jewish community center, the JDC is operating a summer day camp serving more than 200 children. The organization is also supporting mental health services and helping coordinate the repair and reconstruction of hundreds of damaged homes. The rebuilding effort is expected to cost nearly $6 million.

Our partners remind us that while media attention often shifts elsewhere, the recovery process continues long after the headlines fade. True recovery is not measured in days or months, but often in years, requiring sustained commitment, resources, and care for those affected.
